Thursday Night's Teleconference -- 7 pm, June 16, 2011
As posted on our home page, as VNGH, I will be hosting an experimental teleconference this Thursay Night, with the aim of setting up a steering (or planning) committee for our 2012 Clamp Year
.
But since we have just lost our Humbug this will be an opportunity to get a head start on what we will need to do to finish out 2011.
Current officers, as well as anyone interested in helping out this year or next are encouraged to call in. Our web announcements and the mass email I sent out this morning are the only invitations that are going out. So don't feel slighted if I did not personally call you up and ask you to come.
Timbo, who is our most recent past-president and Clampatriarch will be on line with me.
We both have a long association with PXL and have worked closely together now for three years. Regardless of whom the Graybeards pick to complete the current term as Humbug, we are both committed to helping that person succeed, and we will continue to work closely together to keep the chapter on track through 2012.
If you are curious, you are welcome to just dial-in and listen, but we'd much rather you come prepared to discuss how you would like to help out over the next year and a half. Our focus for the meeting will be how to grow PXL without losing our character as a great chapter and how to fold everybody in who would like to help. Our belief is that our chapter has a lot of potential. It's a good chapter with a lot of great guys and we would like to make sure that everybody knows that.
If you would like to attend, here's what you do:
The meeting is on June 16th and starts at 7 p.m.,
so you want to call in a little early. Just dial
(877) 888-4443.
The system will says, "If you do not have an AT&T User ID, press the pound sign (#)." After pressing pound (#) you will have to enter the participant code which is:
5178723
. That's all there is to it. I'll be on line by 6:45 p.m., so don't be afraid to check in. We'll hear you there.

Here's a little focus for thought....
Many of you may not realize this but legally speaking Peter Lebeck isn't a fraternal organization, it's a charity. You can set-up a fraternal chapter as a 501(c)(3), but that's not what our incorporators did. Clamping is a way to keep our members happy and engaged -- and I believe in having fun -- but to fulfill our obligations as a charity we have to plaque, because when you read our incorporation papers the purpose of Peter Lebeck, E Clampus Vitus is very narrow, and to stay legal we cannot afford to ignore our obligation to promote local history.
Take a minute and read the attachment below. It turns out that when Sid says that “If you’re not plaquin’, you’re not Clampin,’” it turns out that that is truer than you’d think.

Re: Thursday Night's Teleconference -- 7 pm, June 16, 2011
For those who took the time to join in, I think our teleconference went quite well. It is clear that we have a good core group of people willing to put the time and effort into bringing this chapter into the 21st century and fixing the problems that we have both in our bylaws and in getting ourseleves in shape to withstand scrutiny from the IRS or other governmental entities who might seek to question our finances or our nonprofit status. A few things emerged, with the two primary things being that we need to bust our asses to get new and quality members and that we need to reengerize our original charter purpose of promoting and preserving Kern County history and historical sites. To that end, VNGH Mikee and I have been laying active groundwork both for our 50th anniversary plaquing and for a fall doins. All input (as well as any help with the gruntwork) is welcome, and hopefully the previous lack of communication will be a thing of the past.

My apologies for missing the tele-conference. I came down sick last night and have been in a Niquil haze. 7PM came & went, and I wasn't the wiser.
Tom Grey called me, and when I saw his name on the phone it was an instant "OH-SHIT!" moment that sobered me up right quick-like.
I will be there at Frazier next weekend..

That's "Gray", Russ -- not Grey, as in Greybeards. Yeah, I do have one of those, but I'm not one of those . . .

Re: Thursday Night's Teleconference -- 7 pm, June 16, 2011
HOOOOOOLE, U HAVE SUM 'SPLAININ' 2 DO!!!
Well, not really. The meeting went really well and I want to thank everybody who called in. You guys are the best!
...and then we got Russ, who had the nerve to get SICK!!!
Actually we owe Russ a VERY BIG BOWL OF Mama Gr
e
y's Chicken Soup. For if you saw the job he did on the new PXL PBC Handbook then you'd know what this guy can do when he's full of penecillin. Russ has already offered to take on compiling and editing the PXL Users Manual, aka "The Cookbook," which would be a major undertaking for anyone in the chairs.
Athabasca Dick
has once again offered his life, his fortune and his sacred honor, and also offered to take Ron's place as Humbug; but for some reason or other the guys seemed more intereted in where he gets the bacon.
Dick
sailed in from Long Beach,
Dennis
blew in from Tehachapi,
Mangler
checked in from Ventura and
Luis
played perfect host.
Schnapps
played himself (or was he reenacting himself?) And
Tom Gray
offered to organize a phone tree for us so we can start beating the bushes now for a new crop of fall 2011 PBCs.
Luis will post the minutes as soon as he finshes them up.
Thanks, guys. You're a great bunch, and I don't care what you mother sez.
(you all have the same mother, don't cha? Who else would be dressing you so funny?)

Re: Thursday Night's Teleconference -- 7 pm, June 16, 2011
Thanks Tony.
I heard about the "C.C. for Humbug" movement, and if you are inclined to volunteer you'll have to take a number. I've heard rumors that some of the older guys are lining up to be drafted sayin' that, "it's so easy to be Humbug even an X-Humbug can do it."
For my money, I'd say Athabasca Dick is the favorite. For one thing he's figured out how to turn on his computer and read his email -- so that's a biggie in my book. And Dick always brings home the BACON!

Re: Thursday Night's Teleconference -- 7 pm, June 16, 2011
Hey, it's OK, I've only been a member of Peter Lebec since 2000, and was Hangman twice. Even though I've only been allowed to read a role in The H.O.C.O was because I was the Hangman, I've begged EVERY clampout to participate, and am usually told no. Oh, and that whole thing about people who didn't even want to be Humbug being elected hey, it never bothered me!
I'll just go sit over here and be quiet.
